How customizable is the hail matrix?

Build as many named presets as you need. One per insurance carrier, one per dealer, one per storm, one for retail walk-in. Edit any cell across 14 panels, 8 dent count ranges, and 3 dent sizes. Set surcharges per preset for oversized dents, aluminum panels, and double panels. USD and CAD stored independently. Restore defaults if you experiment.

Can I customize R&I pricing?

Can I run Steelie on my phone while I'm walking lots?

Yes. Steelie is a Progressive Web App. Install it to your home screen on iPhone, Android, iPad, or desktop and it behaves like an app. Lot walks are mobile-first: VIN scan, tap-to-count for dents per panel, photos, multi-vehicle reports.

How does tap-to-count work?

Each panel opens to a big tap area. One tap, one dent. Big number display so you can see your count from arm's length. Undo button, manual entry override, separate counter for oversized dents, size selection per panel (dime, quarter, large. Toonie for CAD, Half Dollar for USD). One hand on the phone, one hand on the vehicle.

Why doesn't Steelie use vehicle silhouette diagrams?

List-first selection is faster on a phone for techs who already know panel names. You're standing next to the actual vehicle. You don't need a cartoon car to find the panel you're looking at. Splat diagrams are an estimating UX from body-shop software, where the estimator might not be a tech.

Does VIN scanning work with all vehicles?

Standard 17-character VINs from 1981 onward. Camera reads the barcode on the windshield or door jamb. Year, make, model, and trim auto-populate from NHTSA's vPIC database. Manual entry works if the barcode is damaged.

Are there native iOS and Android apps?

Not yet. Steelie installs to your home screen on any device and behaves like a native app, but it's not in the App Store or Play Store. Native shells are on the roadmap.

Can I export my data?

Yes. Pro includes bulk downloads for invoices, work orders, and estimates, plus Excel export for tech pay, revenue, and invoice data. If you cancel, your data stays available for export.
